🇬🇧 IMPORTANT - If you busked Trafalgar Square in 2024 and/or 2025, please complete this short survey by The Musicians’ Union. They are trying to show the Council the impact that the lack of pitches has had this year. It is anonymous, takes 1 minute and is very easy to fill in! 🇬🇧

We had to change the tip button

Stripe now says that you can only use the word “donate” on tip buttons if the recipient is a registered charity.

So, we had to get rid of the text “Donate with” on the Apple Pay / Google Pay buttons. Here’s what they now look like:

Sad news: Camila Hidalgo has stopped working at The Busking Project. If you have emailed us, bought a BuskPay sign or read anything on our website, there’s a good chance you’ve interacted with Cami or benefitted from her work. She’s now teaching in Japan.

Cami worked with us on-and-off since 2017, and was the general administrative assistant (meaning she basically ran the company) from 2021 until this month. She could have been making much more money working somewhere else, but loved this project and stuck with us for much longer than we deserved.

I can’t say enough good things about what it was like working with her. If you’d like to send her well-wishes or thanks, you can email her: [email protected] or reply to this email.

Happy news! We’ve just gained Marcela Maria — an anthropologist and social scientist who has spent a good few years looking at how public art can quietly (or not so quietly) change the life of a city.

She told me she feels this description sounds a bit too weird, and would prefer to say that she simply enjoys writing and talking to people.

Sometimes she also works on documentaries, does graphic production (mostly on paper), and gets involved in curatorial projects. Most of this happened in Brazil, and now a bit in Berlin.

She also enjoys crafting and DIY projects, dyes her own hair, and is the tutor of two very spoiled cats. If you’d like to say “hello” to her, reply to this email :)

That’s it for this week,

Nick
